Origin Crisis, our next and largely PvE-focused DLC Pack, is fast approaching, but before we start down that road, I wanted to take a moment to share with you our plans for PvP in Some of these have been underway for some time, while others are still just beginning to be worked on. JA: There are lots of characters that have hefted a shield in the DC universe. For example, Wonder Woman uses one in battle all the time, but typically she does so with a sword in her other hand.

But this new weapon is different: it is all board and no sword. The character that it was modeled after is named The Guardian. He was created by Jack Kirby in , so he’s been around for a long time. The Guardian is a super soldier, with superior strength, speed, endurance and regeneration. He wields an indestructible shield and is a master of hand to hand combat.

The package will allow players of all types — heroes and villains alike — to build either a one-level Hideout or two-story Lair, depending on their membership level, and decorate it any way they see fit. Jens Andersen: First of all, collecting and trading all of the various Home Turf items is going to be great fun for players. The DLC also has high-end solo content at some of the most iconic locations in the cities. It’s going to be great fun.

As far as Player Bases go, they share all of the same options. But for the Home Turf content, there are two areas for villains and two for heroes. They help him take on T. Morrow, who leads the villains in their activities. Villain missions are located at Arkham Asylum and Steelworks. There are 10 missions at each area. Players will be granted one a day randomly.

Once they complete 5 of those missions, they will be allowed to go inside the location to take on Morrow or Steel in a solo boss fight. But free players can enjoy their Hideout as a place to customize for their character. It’s still a lot of fun, and I know our Free-to-Play players will enjoy the Home Turf items that everyone can earn and trade.

PvP Roadmap 2013

As RadarX previously announced, we will soon introduce new technology into DC Universe Online which will allow us to combine our current servers into huge MegaServers. I wanted to answer some of the questions that have popped up on the forums and Facebook to better explain what these MegaServers will mean to the game.

We have a very large and active population in DCUO. As players achieve higher levels, a lot more of the game involves participating in Raids, Arenas, Duos, Alerts, and other queued instances.

As a part of that, they’ve re-introduced “Disband Group”. Ok, briefly. A while back they decided to discourage people ragequitting PvP matches by making them sit in the corner with a dunce cap on for 10 minutes in what they called a “deserter” debuff. They did this to stop players who were losing matches from just leaving and jumping into a new one. So if you disconnected, had to leave for real world reasons, or simply found yourself in an instance that was already finished but someone thought it’d be hilarious to open the instance up for new players anyway and decided to leave, you had 10 minutes to sit in the corner and think about all the harm you did to your group by leaving them.

Again, great theory. You could initiate a vote to disband the group, and nobody gets a deserter penalty. In practice, it was a troll tool. People came into 8 man raids and immediately voted to disband it. Players who realized they had to actually do work and wouldn’t be carried to victory would “vote to disband”. I spent 2 hours with a group only to have it disband on the final boss fight because the group stumbled a few times trying to figure out the fight.

That’s more than a little heartbreaking. So now they’ve revamped and reintroduced it and, mark my words, it’s still broken. The rest of the party is left in the instance without access to the “matchmaking” pool of hundreds of players, but can try to beg others to join their instance instead.
